    What maps to what

Every band is one book in shelf order, coloured by genre, widened by how much there is to say about it (title plus description length, weighted by type: manga thin, textbooks fat), and brightened by publication year, so old books sit in shadow and new ones glow.

The two thin rows underneath mark language and type, the pinched gaps are the bookcases (A to N, then the loose pile) with shelf ticks between them, and the glowing dots above are hotspots where neighbours disagree on genre, language and century all at once.

A crossover is not genetics but a seeded splice of two titles and two blurbs, so the same pair with the same seed always breeds the same imaginary book, and the viability score is a made-up number that likes neighbours who are different but not too different.
